Prof. Dr Lutz Heinemann

has a track record of 25 years of clinical research / clinical development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for the treatment of patients with diabetes. His focus is on Diabetes Technology and all aspects of insulin pharmacology / treatment. He is active in many academic and business worlds. In 2007 Dr Heinemann was recipient of the "Leadership in Diabetes Technology" award. Read more


Dr Tim Heise

has a long-standing background in both clinical research and clinical care in diabetes and obesity. He has published far more than 100 scientific papers and reviews with a focus on the pharmacology of antidiabetic drugs. Dr Heise is member of the Editorial Board of Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism. He has a strong interest in evidence-based medicine. Read more

Dr Christoph Kapitza

has over 15 years of diabetes research experience in drug, biologic, device and drug-device combination product development. He has consulted in the clinical development plans (phase I through pivotal to post-marketing studies) of several new therapeutic entities. An area of special interest and expertise are incretin hormones. Read more

PD Dr Martina Heer

is a research nutritionist with interest in the field of nutritional physiology and the effects of nutrients on the musculoskeletal system. She published more than 80 scientific papers and reviews (cumulative impact factor >220; Hirsch-Index: 19). At Profil she is the Chief Scientific Officer and contributes nutritional science consultation. Read more


PD Dr Thomas Jax

has a strong background of research in academic and industry environments. Scientific contributions include NO-related and diabetes-specific mechanisms of vascular diseases. He is currently appointed Director of Cardiometabolic Research. His expertise and current focus is cardiac safety and potential positive cardiovascular effects of new antidiabetic drug developments. Prof. Dr Freimut Schliess

is a biochemist with longstanding scientific activities in the fields of Experimental Hepatology and Molecular Medicine. At Profil he is the Head of the Scientific Affairs Department and contributes scientific and methodological input to the design and evaluation of clinical trials. Read more



Dr Sabine Arnolds

is a physician and Director of Research & Development at Profil. She has been working in diabetes for more than 20 years with a background in both academia and 9 years pharmaceutical industry. Sabine joined Profil in 2003 and has been Principal Investigator for several phase 1 PK/PD and glucose clamp trials with new antidiabetic compounds. Read more


Dr Carsten Benesch

is a physicist in the field of nano-structured surfaces on condensed matter and has long-term experience in hardware and software development of medical devices. At Profil he is the Director of Technical Development and manager of the AP@home EU project. Read more



Dr Eric Zijlstra

started his professional career in 2008 as Scientific Study Advisor at Profil. With an academic background in biomedical engineering and physiology, he has the capabilities to translate across and combine these two fields of science. Read more
